WRITING DOWN GOALS – A CASE STUDY OR A STRANGE THING THAT HAPPENED LAST WEEK
August 26, 2015
I’ve heard a lot about how writing down your goals helps you achieve them but I’ve never really taken to it because I always remember them. And that’s where it used to end… until last week.
First of all, let me tell you what goals are not. It’s not a list of tasks such as “do food shopping” or “tidy up”. Those are ongoing issues because, well… we have to eat to live and, since I am a very prolific mess generator, tidying up is always on the agenda.
Goals, on the other hand, are things that bring you closer to what you endeavour to achieve. Once you've ticked them off the list, you should know you have moved one tiny step forward in your quest to wherever it is that you’re going (it’s worth knowing where that is).
My track record of writing down short-term goals was non-existent until last week when I joined the Female Entrepreneur Association’s private Facebook group. On Sunday 16th August, Carrie Green, the owner of the group posted a picture, on which there was a question: “What is your #1 focus for the week?” I decided to reply for no reason at all. I don’t know anyone there, so this was only an attempt at being interactive. Below is the evidence:
What happened next, I hear you asking. Lo and behold, a week later I look back at it and realise that I have accomplished everything on the list and managed to do even more! And that’s on top of working on client site for four days last week and having a dinner party one evening.
I don’t know what happened. I am still puzzled. All I know is that I’ve already written a list of goals for this week. One of them was writing this post.
